Huge Blunder

I don’t get this; they say that a jury found Andrea Yates not guilty by reason of insanity.
How can that happen? Don’t they always make sure a jury is not insane before letting them render a verdict?

  1. I truly believe Andrea Yates was over the brink and psychotic. She didn’t kill her children out of malice but out of despair and delusion. Does that make it okay? Certainly not. But I’m glad that with this verdict she will be able to get some help.

  2. I find it interesting that the most virulent comments on this issue come from men. While I too, consider Ms. Yates actions abhorrent, I have had the experience of several(5) children under the age of (in my case 9 yrs. old). The difference, I had a husband who understood the stress, sleep deprivation and depression that is possible after the birth of a child. He and my family and friends made sure I was taken care of. Obviously the people in her life either refused to or didn’t see the danger she was to herself and others. The whole thing is just tragic.
dan c – I wouldn’t worry about hell, she’s already there and will be for the rest of her natural and eternal life.

  3. alan,
you are right on. as a matter of fact they would probably have to keep him from the general population. otherwise he would be dead.
    seanm,
i do believe my wish was for her to suffer for eternity. i just wish she would have gotten a little help in getting there. you know, like she helped her kids.

  4. seanm,
and by the way if she was (is) truly insane how in the hell do you know what kind of hell she is living. blaming what she did (methodically drowning her 5 CHILDREN) on her family to me is nothing more than enabling. that’s no different than saying someone whacked out on drugs or alcohol and killing a family of 5 could get of by reason of insanity. by todays standard drug and alcohol abuse is an illness too. its idiots like you that allowed this woman to not get the punishment she deserved. you know, the same punishment she gave 5 HELPLESS children.

  5. Don’t get me wrong what she did is in NO way defensible. I just think it is so tragic that no one was either able to or willing to see how disturbed she was. One would have to be either truly evil or terrible disturbed to do what she did.
I really do believe her actions will follow her for eternity no matter what a judge and or jury decide. She will always know what she did, and so will everyone she comes in contact with, no matter where she goes. I’m sure this does not satisfy the demands of justice for some but she will not be able to escape “eternal justice.” That’s not as satisfying but in the long run it’s the best we have.

Here ya go seanm, a mom of two kids here saying I wouldn’t have a problem with someone holding Yates (Missus and Mister) under water until their lungs were full, then emptying them out, bringing them back to life via some electrical current and doing it again, five times at least. Then they would know what their kids went through.

  7. I love it when liberals & trolls try to push morality issues on others here. Maybe they can also grace us with other topics that are foreign to them, like:
    Parenting advice from Cindy Sheehan
    Diet tips from Michael Moore
    Kosher cooking with al-Zawahiri
    Marriage advice from Hitlery Clinton
Responsible & accurate reporting from Dan Rather, Geraldope Rivera and Ann Marie Cox
    Effective diplomacy from Kofi Annan
This could just go on & on…

  8. Awesome list there Alan, and much appreciated, but you can’t bother much with portocrap, he’s too busy checking out his neighbor’s 8 year old boy to really cause much trouble.

  9. So, did any of you opinionated lumps of matter see the special on the other night showing her video interview and info on the drug she was taken off only DAYS before the drownings. Not to mention the psycho “religious” dude her husband- YES! her husband- introduced her to that places all the responsibility of children on the mother…in a really psycho/mask wearing (as in devil) way.
This woman never stood a chance, but it also doesn’t make drowning her children OK. However, she’ll need to deal with getting better, and as they said, she’ll meet the horrors of her actions as her mind comes back to her.
Which might very well end up the worst case scenario for her-living with the truth of her actions rather than being put to death for them.

  10. Are you blaming our pointless deaths on religion, daddy and chemical dependancy, or are you just making excuses for letting morally bereft people live? Others have made that same arguement in defense of sex offenders.
