Capitalist Propaganda: “Statement of Purpose”

From 2009, Fox Nation comes out of the closet and lets everyone know exactly what they stand for, with “Statement of Purpose”:

[Fox Nation direct link]

It blows my mind that this video had to me made. There is nothing in here but the safest, most uncontroversial catch-phrases and buzz-words, like :

Constitution; Declaration of Independence; Emancipation Proclamation; community; American Dream Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; honor; responsibility; great adventure; our way of life; creativity; ingenuity; work ethic; civility; mutual respect; unity; tolerance; open debate; civil discourse; freedom of thought, expression, and worship; values

This should be a yawner. A no-brainer. Completely and utterly unremarkable.

But it’s not that kind of world.

To paraphrase Nathan Jessep, “Fox News uses these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. The rest of the news media uses them as a punch line.”

Ideally, ANY news organization – hell, any organization period – should be able to say EXACTLY what Fox Nation said without a second thought, a sense of embarrassment, or the need to use a tone of sneering irony.

But it’s not that kind of world.

We live in the kind of world where an unabashedly American statement like this makes Fox Nation look like some sort of ultra-triple-mythical beast from an alternate universe where the laws of physics and mathematics don’t apply. Fox Nation is a vamwericorn (half vampire, half werewolf, half unicorn), and it’s existence is grotesque and incomprehensible to the liberal media elite and their sycophantic toadies in government and academia.

To hell with them.

I want to live in a Fox Nation kind of world.

  1. Small steps, Harvey. The rebellion is just getting started!

Some recent good news reported around the innertubes: Cheney now more popular than Pelosi. Those who strongly disapprove of Obama roughly equal those who strongly approve. There’s a hint of slight progress among the electorate.

Other than, that, we’re putting you up against Obama in 2012, Harvey. There’s gonna be a “Draft Harvey” movement and we’re startin’ it. Frank’s too young, and besides, his ears aren’t dry. Hehe. (TGIF)

  2. According to the video, FoxNation is “a community that believes in the American dream, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. One that believes being an American is an honor, as well as a great responsibility and a wonderful adventure. This is a place for people who believe in a great country, a welcoming refuge for legal immigrants, who want to contribute their talent and ability to make our way of life even greater…”

That’s a pretty fancy way of saying that it’s a message board where adults who should really have better things to do sit around in various stages of undress and type snarky comments to people they don’t know, often about issues they don’t take the time to understand, while using an assumed name.

  3. Thank Heaven for Fox News, the one news outlet that “gets it” and does not drink the Obama Kook-Aid.

Hey #1: a Palin-Harvey ticket mayhaps? We have just under only 4 yrs to take care of that pesky nervous squeak he gets around her, and time’s a-wastin’. 😉

  4. Forty-five years ago, Americans, Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders, Indians, Africans, British, French, and Poles were dying on the beaches and in the hedgerows, fighting fascism.

    Today…

You can see where I’m going with it.

  5. There is a certain irony washing ashore at Normandy this morning. The beach stained with the blood of tens of thousands to remove the fist of fascism now plays host to leaders who are marked by tragic incomprehension. Obama praises those Americans who fought and died against Fascism in Europe only to impose the same economic model at home, while returning home from a speech that plays Neville Chamberlin to the current wave of Islamofascists. The French president speaks of preserving freedom in Europe even as Europe’s demographics commit suicide and those same Islamofascists plan prayer towers for Notre Dame. Obama calls the victory “improbable” because he knows nothing of courage – only ego. And even the most fervent egotist recognizes at 4 AM that he or she is just a human being. As with those who deny the Moon landings or assign construction of the pyramids to aliens, they assume that because they can’t be bothered to be strong that no one ever has risen to great challenges with great faith. They stand in the face of something that should change any soul with undeniable force and simply write it off as luck. Those for whom the words strength, integrity, faith, and honor have no meaning look into the embodiment of those words with simple uncomprehending confusion, trying to fit square pegs into holes rounded forever by academic echo chambers of polysyllabic infantism.

There are those for whom words are the thin vessels of celestial fire and the hand of God, and flesh backs up those words, and blood writes them forever in the Earth. And there are those, as today, whose words may be put together in the same framework and be spoken in the same languages, but are lost to the wind because they are not rooted in the speaker’s integrity. Weep not for the strong dead. Weep for the insane living.

  6. Something from my readings this morning, particularly accurate on the 65th anniversary of D-Day…

    Hebrews 2: 15b-16
…by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.

  7. Peren gives me a great idea: whoever gets put up for Prez next time, make Zo the Press Secretary. His White House Press Conferences would be so good, networks would beg to interrupt their usual programming for them!
