  1. Guess some have not a clue, I spent 12 months attached Marine Barracks, Guard Company GTMO Bay, Cuba from 1969-1970. Col. Van D, Bell Commanding of all ground forces (which were U.S. Marines. I was NCOIC of the NE Gate when my Guard Platoon was on duty. We let then about 40 Cuban Nationals through the NE Gate daily. Castro had an agreement that these last few Cubans could go on and off base each day. Then the understanding was when they all could not cross into GTMO the agreement was over.

GTMO is and has always been a great place, ask the vultures, and land crabs. Food was not bad. the Minefield is huge and w-4 Bratcher was the one keeping the field from getting over grown with a nasty weed… they had to burn out the minefields once in a while because of so much over growth. Summers the Silent Drill team & the Maine Band came there to practice, and they always gave great performances.

Got more, but if was a great year…
