Here’s an interesting article on how pickpocketing is disappearing as it’s something that takes skill and practice and today’s criminals are too lazy and stupid for it. I’m not sure how concerned to get in the declining quality of criminals. It means we’ll never actually see supercriminals as criminals aren’t going to engage in anything more complicated than hitting someone over the head and grabbing money. They’re probably even too lazy to put on clown makeup before a crime.
I think it’s just too easy to make a living doing legal things these days. In the least, you might as well just get welfare instead of directly robbing people and it takes even less effort. If making a living were a bit harder, then you might have smarter people turn to crime and rob banks with freeze rays and themed henchman. So that’s a side-effect of prosperity — really really dumb lazy criminals. It’s hardly even worth Batman’s time. I mean, billions in gadgets and all he ever runs into are a couple stupid thugs who only require a punch to the face.

Actually, pickpocketing has been outsourced. It’s still an active viable trade in places like Africa. Got hit up by a very professional 3 man team in Uganda. Fortunately, I’m left-handed and they only got my camera on the right side (They filched my passport as well, but threw it back to me since the new ones are difficult to utilize; considerate of them)
The loss of the camera was more important for the video I hadn’t offloaded. But one of my older orphan girls took up the challenge, help bribe the cops into doing their job (the pickpockets are regulars), got the camera back, got the guys arrested, only cost about $42 (plus a matching amount for reward to my wonderful savior there). The guys ended up in jail…until they could pay their way out. We back on the same corner about a week later where my girl saw them; they smiled and waved. All very business-like; paying for education.
Quick somebody unionize and subsidize criminals. We cant have them being left behind

There’s nothing sadder than a story about a displaced criminal, but pickpockets weren’t really displaced. They are simply capitalists who moved on to richer pickings. Most are now in Congress.
Silly boy! All the pick pockets and scam artists have run for and have won seats in Congress! That’s why they aren’t on the streets applying their trade! They are doing it from a cushy seat where they can legally steal us blind! Batman can’t even stop that one! We elected a bunch of Tea Party types, but once they got to Washington they turned totally ghey and totally into spending monsters!!! Now they are just politicians…an even lower breed than a lawyer or a member of NAMBLA!!!

I always wondered why guys like Captain Cold and Doc Ock and stuff didn’t just patent their inventions and make billions. Seriously, the military wouldn’t buy a freeze ray? I would. No, it’s just like, Hey, I invented this amazing matter-transferrence ray and I’m going to use it to knock over the S&L on the corner.
