Monday Night Open Thread

History must be learned so that the mistakes won’t be repeated. Unless you’re stupid. And, boy are people stupid.

The History Guy talked a little about a virus recently. Not specifically something that indicates we’re repeating mistakes of the past, but just how wrong we often are about things, and sometimes are successful despite what we know and what we don’t know.

What are you binge watching?

Personally I am going deep into British Detectives. I’ve watched Midsomer Murders, Cadfael and Foyle’s war. Also not quite British but close I’ve watched Murdoch Mysteries (Canadian) and My life is Murder (Australian). A note on the My life is Murder show. It stars Lucy Lawless who I must say is aging quite well. The show just completed it’s first season in 2019 and I look forward to season 2. So what has occupied your time in prison?

Straight Line of the Day: Who’s that knocking at the door?

Submitted for your Approval: Lockdown

Seanmahair, who has been absent for a while, sent us a link and her thoughts.

It’s a serious article from Business Insider, and it’s an interesting read. It includes some stats about how widespread the lockdown is.

If you’re in the lockdown, you may think everyone is. Everyone’s not.

If you’re not in lockdown, you might not realize just how widespread it is.

So, this article from Business Insider gives some data on that.

Seanmahair has some thoughts on it.

Only 4 states are not under lock down and only 3 others are partially locked down. 95% of this country is now imprisoned in their own homes. All because of a virus that has an impact less then the garden variety “flu”, the “bird flu”, the “H1N1 flu,” all of which killed the elderly, the infirm, the obese, those with compromised immune systems, those with secondary illnesses, infants and random other folks who shouldn’t supposedly have died. None of the “others” which had larger numbers of deaths shut down the entire country.

Oh but this has affected more people you might say. Well, we didn’t test everyone or even some folks. They only tested the really ill. How many of us had those flues and never even knew it? This is especially troubling because now there is precedent.

What will they decide is dangerous enough to lock us down, and who decides that? The CDC, WHO, governors, congress/people with no medical experience or degrees…

Because none of these people have ulterior motives.

I have land south of Key West to sell you. I got it from a Nigerian prince.

What do you think? Is Seanmahair on to something?
