Friday Night Open Thread: They Don’t Deliver Lines Like This Any More

Continuing with the Orson Welles theme, from his documentary F for Fake:

“‪And this has been standing here for centuries. The premier work of man, perhaps, in the whole Western world — and it’s without a signature. Chartres. A celebration to God’s glory and to the dignity of man.

All that’s left, most artists seem to feel these days, is man. Naked, poor, forked radish. There aren’t any celebrations. Ours, the scientists keep telling us, is a universe which is disposable.

You know, it might be just this one anonymous glory of all things, this rich stone forest, this epic chant, this gaiety, this grand, choiring shout of affirmation, which we choose when all our cities are dust, to stand intact, to mark where we have been, to testify to what we had it in us to accomplish.

Our works in stone, in paint, in print, are spared, some of them for a few decades or a millennium or two, but everything must finally fall in war, or wear away into the ultimate and universal ash. The triumphs and the frauds, the treasures and the fakes. A fact of life. We’re going to die. ‘Be of good heart,’ cry the dead artists out of the living past. Our songs will all be silenced — but what of it? Go on singing. Maybe a man’s name doesn’t matter all that much.”‬

Friday Night Cinematic Treat: If You Thought Spielberg Was the Only One Good at Effective Camera Movements

Astoundingly choreographed opening scene from Touch of Evil by Orson Welles, featuring dollies, zoom-ins, zoom-outs, tracking shots, bird’s-eye views, low-level shots, and more — all in one fluid continuous take. Just imagine if you were the one in charge of getting the lighting guys, sound guys, and everyone else in their places at the right moments!

Oh, and by the way it shows how easy it always has been to cross the border from Mexico into the U.S. The still, below, is Charlton Heston and Janet Leigh at the border.

WIHDE — Will It Help Defeat Enemies?

If not, stop wasting time and money on it!

History was made on Friday with the first ever all gay U.S. Navy helicopter crew
Lifesize News | May 7, 2021 | Doug Mainwaring

Under the Biden-Harris administration, the normalizing of homosexuality and transgenderism within the ranks of the U.S. military is accelerating.

“History was made on Friday with the first ever all gay U.S. Navy helicopter crew,” tweeted veteran Navy Intelligence Officer and left-wing activist Travis Akers, along with pictures of the homosexual flyers.

During the previous week, the U.S. Air Force (USAF) announced that a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer/Questioning Initiative Team (LIT)

… Seems like everyone but the lesbians got short-changed in that acronym.

had been formally established under the umbrella of its Barrier Analysis Working Group (BAWG).

The BAWG is part of the Swamp, right?

Maj. Gen. Leah Lauderback, a lesbian and one of the group’s founders, said of the USAF LGBT inclusion endeavor, “I expect our group will grow–our community and allies want to help!”

As long as our enemies don’t want to help.
