Good evening.
Pygmalion (1938) vs Les Miserables (1935)
PygmalionDirectors: Anthony Asquith, Leslie Howard | Stars: Leslie Howard, Wendy Hiller, Wilfrid Lawson, Marie Lohr
VS
Les MiserablesDirector: Richard Boleslawski | Stars: Fredric March, Charles Laughton, Cedric Hardwicke, Rochelle Hudson
Both of which were later adapted I to Tony Award winning musicals.
Between my fat fingers and a degenerate spell check, “into” somehow became “I to” in the above post.
We have sacked the people responsible for sacking those responsible.
In this “Before They Were Musicals” battle, I give it to Pygmalion mostly because I prefer comedies. In Les Misérables, Charles Laughton’s performance was fantastic, and I was impressed that they made the Paris sewers appropriately disgusting.
