Afterthought: “Allegedly”

Looking for some comment or insight from those MoonNukers who are above average in intelligence:

In the previous post, I was going to use the word “allegedly,” but then I got to wondering:

Why is that accepted as any sort of protection against —

— I don’t know — lawsuits.

.

My question is: how many people does it take to qualify a statement as being “alleged”?

If I today call Walrus an emu-killer, or even rhea-attacker, does that mean that the New York Times can print a story describing Walrus as an “alleged emu-killer/rhea-attacker”?

Does the use of that word “alleged” shield the NYT in court from charges of having called him that?

Is that all it takes? For one single person to allege something? Is that the protection from being liable for libel?

Insights are welcome — from the elite described above, and even from MoonNukers who are just about average in intelligence (and you know who you are). The rest . . . eh . . . better hold your responses and email them to an address to be named later.

  1. Well if 2023 is anything like 2022..a bunch of us will be found alledgedly standing on a tall building hoping we impact on a Democrat or a Liberal..not to be confused with awindowing or afireescaping..

  2. You can’t handle the truth!

Son, we live in a world that has apps and those apps have to be guarded by men with woke sensibilities. Who’s gonna do it? You, Oppo? You, Walruskkkch? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for reason and you curse the utopians. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know — that “allegedly” is a means of introducing a slow sort of information death, which, while tragic, probably saves snowflake lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, supports Facebook and Twitter, and even your modest website.

You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on those apps — you need me on those apps, consuming content and creating buzz.

You use words like “Straight”, “Line” “IMAO.” You use these words as the backbone of a website dedicated to defending something. You use them to attract punch lines.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to men who rise and sleep under the blanket of the very patronage that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it.

I would rather that you just said “thank you” and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick out a new intern and make her stand the post. Either way, I don’t give a DAMN what you think you’re entitled to!
